ISTANBUL 3rd AIRPORT PROPOSAL PROJECT
- Project Place: İstanbul, Turkey
- Project Date: 2015
- Architectural Project: Hazan Architecture
DESCRIPTION
When we look into the historical architecture of Istanbul, we find that there is a unique geometric logic. We believe that a project that is shaped by a contemporary vision and takes inspiration from the historic geometric understanding is more appropriate. Without a question, the dome shape is the most important element that gives Turkish architecture and Istanbul its character. For a building of such scope, we believe that a contemporary interpretation of the dome element would create a unique and memorable character. The building envelope is proposed to be resolved by a space-frame structure and to be decorated by a suspended bar ceiling. While providing a visually pleasing and physically sound solution, the construction time-frame will be reduced dramatically which will ease the overall construction process. This in turn will create a feasible construction economy. Another advantage of the choice of the space-frame structure is that the system allows for fewer columns. Consequently, this is a factor that will ease the departure passenger flow and will achieve a more central space feeling.
