ERZINCAN AIRPORT

  • Project Place: Erzincan, Turkey
  • Project Date: 2009
  • Construction Date: 2011
  • Total Construction Area: 52,746 m²
  • Architectural Project: Hazan Architecture
  • Employer: Directorate General Of State Airports Authority
  • Main Contractor: Ser Yapı A.Ş.
  • Static Project: Aday Grubu
  • Mechanical Project: CG Mühendislik
  • Electric Project: DEHA Mühendislik
  • Photos: ZM Yasa Fotoğraf
DESCRIPTION

Since the project is situated in an earthquake zone, the pipe shaped arcuate form was used for the structure to ensure an effective and structurally sound solution. The construction logic is based on utilizing local materials as well as local structural strategies. However, the main idea of the project was to establish a new, innovative structural logic rather than solely repeat traditional methods. Therefore, local construction techniques were reinterpreted and customized in order to attain the targeted results. The structure consists of telescopic connected tubes in consecutively diminishing sizes. The pipe shaped structure used in the design of the airport was inspired from commercial planes. The tubes functioning as channels which arrange the passenger flow make the fundamental concept of the terminal building.
