ADNAN MENDERES AIRPORT DOMESTIC TERMINAL

  • Project Place: Gaziemir, Izmir
  • Project Date: 1998 İnternational / 2012Domestic Terminal
  • Construction Date: 2014
  • Total Construction Area: 291,267 m²
  • Architectural Project: Hazan Architecture
  • Employer: Directorate General Of State Airports Authority
  • Main Contractor: TAV, TEPE, AKFEN Yatırım, İnşaat ve İşletme A.Ş.
  • Static Project: Statica
  • Mechanical Project: GMD Mühendislik
  • Electric Project: Latek Mühendislik
  • Interior Design Project: Hazan Architecture
  • Landscape Project: Hazan Architecture
  • Photos: ZM Yasa Fotoğraf
  • Awards: 1st Prize (International Terminal)
DESCRIPTION

The primary focus of this project was the use of open space. The space between the airside and landside was purposefully crafted to be clear of visual obstacles. To promote fluidity, the gardens have direct access to the outdoors. The large open structures which carry the roof also function as commercial areas. The terminal is the largest domestic airport terminal in Turkey and measures 291,267 m2. The application of a waste management strategy during the demolition of the previous terminal building allowed 99% of the construction waste to be recycled on site. Consequently, this undertaking was awarded with the Innovative Sustainability Application prize by SKD and the "Eco-Innovation Award" by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe, 2010). The Terminal Project also holds a National Steel Structure Prize and European Steel Structure Design award by ECCS (2007) to Yakup Hazan. Furthermore, it was selected as the “Green Initiative Airport of the Year” at the Doha Aviation Summit (2009).
